Getting a Cold Iron knife stuck between your ribs and hipbone is not a fun way to spend an evening.

Sebby's Will O'Wisp didn't quite work out as planned the first time. We were pondering what to do next when Julian called and told me that Christopher Ryan had told him Gavin was in the hospital. After an embarassing moment when I forgot I didn't have my car keys, we went off to GWU hospital to talk to Gavin.

He told us what he could remember, which wasn't too much, other than that he and Ceara had stopped for a car in distress on the way home from dinner, and someone attacked him with Cold Iron (he had a hard time remembering what happened), then took off with Ceara.

Sebby tried the Will O'Wisp again in the hospital parking lot. This time, he had much better results. That little ball of flame took off like the proverbial bat out of hell. After sticking the flashing light on top of the car, we were off.

The flame led us to one of the less desirable parts of D.C. More specifically, a tenement. Sebastian magicked open the door, and in we went.

The ball led us to a room on the third floor. When we got in there, we discovered that someone had tied poor Ceara up with Cold Iron wire. Sick bastards.

I tried to cut her loose while Sebby called 911, and that's when the perp showed up. He pulled a knife on me, and that's when the battle rage took over.

The next thing I know, he's flying out the window, and my side feels like it's on fire. I found out later that Sebby had Hopscotched our adversary's clothes, and sent him flying out the window -- but not before he'd put a Cold Iron knife into me. Sebby had also gotten poor Ceara free, but she was in a pretty bad way.

My co-workers and EMS arrived on the scene shortly after that, and Ron and Doug took a statement while EMS took Ceara off to the hospital. I ended up going to the Emergency Room too -- the cut Mr. Snake Tattoo put in me took six stitches.

So I'm on sick leave until the stitches come out. Ceara's still in the hospital, but they tell me she's going to be okay.

I think the painkillers are kicking in, so I'll stop here....

Ceara is MISSING.

She didn't come home after she and Gavin went out with us last night. Then Sebby told me Gavin's car is missing. OK, not good. Then I found a car that seems to be his in an impound lot in Silver Woods. Really not good.

When I got home, Sebby told me that some of our neighbors told him there'd been a strange fae hanging around the complex, looking for "his cousin, Ceara." Call me paranoid, but coupled with what's already happened, that worries me.

Sebby's gone outside to try to track her down with a Will-o'the-Wisp. Let's hope it works....

[mood | stressed]

A couple days ago, I came home from work to find a couple of trolls from the county of Buckeyes at our door. They claimed Sebby and I had stolen a Treasure when we left. Um, hello? Police officer, here? Not to mention a member of the Baronial Guard?

We explained politely that we didn't know what they were talking about, and then they tried to intimidate us into going to Carterhaugh with them to see their boss, Count Parnell ap Dougal. Apparently, working with Gunthar is a good thing, because neither of us was intimidated in the least.

It was about that time that Sandra, Steve, John, Peter and Gavin showed up. Sandra did a little verbal legerdemain on the trolls, and they left. Score one for our side.

Gavin sort of let it slip that he's from the County of Buckeyes. Sonuvabitch! Not only that, he's engaged to Parnell's heiress! I think I need to have a long talk with Ceara about her...infatuation...with that young man.

Sebby and I ended up explaining what had happened after our trip into the Dreaming last year -- how everything in the fae sphere in Columbus was mixed up and weird, and how no one remembered us. A whole lot of ideas got bandied about, some of them involving alternate realities. I felt like I was stuck in a science fiction novel, or maybe a comic book.

Sandra has this idea that Gwalchamai might know something about our past. Even if he doesn't tell us anything new, I'm kind of looking forward to getting the information out of him....

[music |"Scarlet" by Junko Iwao]

We rented Underworld last night. Glowing ultraviolet ammo. Erm, yeah. Who the hell thinks up these things?

I don't know if I should keep a closer eye on Ceara or not. I mean, Gavin seems nice, but he let it slip that he's engaged to another girl. This may not be a good thing. I am supposed to be responsible for her, after all.

Speaking of which, I had another dream involving her last night. It involved training with a dream-analogue of Kellin, who was the hold's war duke, while Aeryn was the head of the priestesses. I spent some time shadow-fencing in order to get back into shape after spending far too long in bed, and Sebby sort of happened along as I was trying to catch my second wind.

To make a long story short, the two of us ended up bathing together in the place's Roman-style baths. Mickey showed up and told us that a messenger from Ceara's betrothed was waiting to talk to her (Ceara, that is, not Mickey) and me. We got dressed and made our way back, where we met the messenger, a fellow who called himself "Garrett." He agreed to wait a few days so that everyone was rested before we set off for the wedding.

While Sebby showed Garrett around, I asked Mickey if she'd like to come with us, ostensibly as a companion to Ceara. She said yes, and we managed to convince Sebby to come along too (not that it was that hard...).

It was about then that I woke up....

So...

We have a long-term guest. Aya came over a few days ago after Julietta left her alone (again). I think I'm really starting to hate that woman.

Mickey, sweetheart that she is, has been consoling Aya for a while now. Hopefully it'll show the poor girl that there's someone else besides Julietta out there. She must have been pretty stressed out by being "abandoned," because when I got home the other day, I found out that Mickey and Sebby (with some help from Julian and Gordon) had taken her to the doctor after she'd been running a temperature.

Turns out Aya has a virus of some sort; the doctor said rest and fluids should take care of it in a few days. Maybe less, considering how attentively Mickey's been taking care of her.

While Mickey was taking care of Aya and Sebby and I were making dinner, Julietta showed up to pound on our door and demand that we let her in to talk to Aya. I damn near lost my temper after she started screeching at me, but then Sebby showed up, handed her a cookie, and told her to be a good girl and go away. The look on her face was priceless! Too bad it didn't last, though -- she started arguing again a few minutes later, and didn't stop until Gordon and Julian dropped by. We were so grateful that we fed the two of them dinner.

So now we've got Aya set up in my old bedroom -- we're planning to have some of her stuff moved over as soon as she gets better.

Crap, is it that late? Time to get ready for work....

So, let's see...

We had a group of Thallain kidnapping and eating people in the barony. Luckily, both my employers took them into custody, but not before they injured a number of people -- among them Julian's kid brother.

For a minute there, I almost considered going back to Ohio. Almost. Then the memories of the weirdness there kicked in, and I thought about the law that got passed, and thought, "Not only 'no,' but 'HELL NO!'"

Maybe I can convince Mom & Dad to come visit me here, rather than me going to see them....

[mood | productive]

The 20th is Kellin's birthday. A bunch of us are getting together and surprising him -- we're taking him out for lunch on the 19th.

Ceara's a quick study -- at this rate, she'll be ready for her Fior pretty soon.

Mickey's talking about having Aya talk to Sonja; hopefully that'll straighten things out between her and Julietta. It disgusts me to see one of us treating a Dreamer like dirt -- with any luck, this'll make sure that the bitch never treats Aya that way again.

Bree just jumped up on my monitor and is looking at me with the most adorable expression. It's almost like she knew I needed cheering up...

I think I owe her a round of "Chase-the-String"....:)

Spent yesterday evening taking Ceara around and introducing her to everyone in the Villa. I kind of figure that that's part of being her mentor, y'know?

I had to reassure her that yes, the folks that hang out in #30 are weird, but harmless. :)

Still no word from Lady Julietta (a/k/a Judith Chamberten). We'll just see what happens.

I fucking hate Sovereign.

Yesterday, we had Mickey's friend Aya over for dinner. Nice young lady, and a very potent Dreamer to boot.

We'd just finished dessert when Aya's roommate, a sidhe named Judith Chamberten, showed up. She wanted Aya to go back to their apartment with her. I swear I haven't seen anyone who was that much of a spoiled, stuck-up snot since...well, not since I can remember, actually. Unless you count that one Eiluned in Columbus....

Anyway, the three of us managed to convince Aya to stay, though Judith insisted on staying with her. Fuck.

Judith seems to have Aya wrapped around her finger -- and not in a good way. Talk about your controlling relationships! She even tried dragging poor Aya off the couch and out of the apartment! And then she tried to Sovereign us into letting her do it!

We put a stop to that pretty quickly. Needless to say, Judith wasn't happy when Mickey ordered her out (long story...). She said something about it not being over -- bring it on.

At Sebby and Mickey's suggestion, I went over across the hall to make sure Judith didn't wreck any of Aya's things in a snit. I got over there, explained what I was doing, and the bitch lodges a complaint against me with Detective Storms! I was ready to boot her tight little ass into the next kingdom!

By the time we got everything sorted out, it was time for Ceara's Saining. Poor kid -- I'm afraid I wasn't too sociable after what happened. Hopefully, I can make it up to her -- especially since I'm to be her mentor.

I got through Ceara's Saining without breaking anything, then hit the salle. Must remember to tell Lady Freya that I'll reimburse her for the rattan swords.

Spent the night in the freehold -- probably better than trying to get home exhausted after working off my frustrations. Lucky for me a guest room was available.

So I'm going to finish typing this up, then go home. Hopefully Mickey and Sebby aren't too upset.....

Ceara's getting ready to be presented to the Baronial Court. I'm going with -- she'll need a familiar face there.

Mickey's invited a friend of hers named Aya over for dinner Friday. Maybe the four of us can do something at The Green Man -- we're out of ricotta cheese.

Off to work...

Oooo-kay...

What the blazes was a cryptic note doing on the floor of my apartment the other night?

Apparently, someone likes being mysterious. Unfortunately, after a twelve-hour day, I have a very low tolerance for that sort of thing. Graphological analysis is not my strong suit when I'm practically dead on my feet. OK, so the letter getting stepped on didn't help, but still....

Why do I seem to be a weirdness magnet lately? I swear I'm seriously considering switching to the Supernatural Task Force....

We have a new member of the family -- Cheryl knows who she is now: Ceara ni Scathach.

It's kind of weird, but Lyonsville feels more like "home" than Columbus ever did. Or, to be more precise, SilverWater feels more like home than the County of Buckeyes. Go figure.

So Ceara Chrysalised in our apartment Sunday night. The four of us were sharing a dream (don't ask) and Mickey, Sebby and I woke up to screaming from the computer room.

We found Cheryl curled up on the bed, with enough Glamour coming off her to light up the whole city. I tried to ask her what was happening, and she grabbed two handfuls of my nightshirt and wouldn't let go.

Luckily, Sebby thought to call Lady Althea. With her help, we managed to get everything under control, and Ceara came out of things OK, though she's still getting her head wrapped around everything.

So I guess the next thing is to take her in to Caer Leon and introduce her to the rest of the barony, arrange for her Saining and Fior.... If they let me, I'll be happy to foster her; it seems we've already bonded anyway. :)

It seems we were right about Cheryl -- she shared the dream with us last night.

I'd really like to know something -- why do most of these dreams involve me having to swallow some nasty-tasting concoction?

Sebby made some remark about having me be well enough in them to do more than just lie there and recuperate; silly satyr -- I think I know where his mind is....

I'm beginning to wonder if Bradley wasn't right about people projecting their feelings into other people's minds.

Last night, we had Cheryl and Claudia over for dinner. It was a collaborative effort -- I made lasagna, Sebby made Greek potatoes, and Mickey made sushi.

I noticed Cheryl sneaking looks at me under her lashes during dinner and afterwards. While Sebby and I were cleaning up, he told me she might be close to Chrysalis, or Kinain at the very least.

We watched Record of Lodoss War for a while after that. About halfway through an episode, Cheryl excused herself to use the bathroom. The rest of us had some fun watching and talking for a while, but then we noticed she hadn't come out. When she finally did, it looked like she'd been crying.

Sebby took her out for a walk while Mickey and I entertained Claudia. Turns out she works at the McFinn Historical site, and has a thing for Liam Dillon, the archaeology student in the other building.

So when Sebby and Cheryl got back, he told me he'd taken her to see Ginny, and that Cheryl's been having nightmares about a white-haired guy with Cold Iron knives chasing her. Needless to say, that was distressing news -- especially when you consider the recent murder cases.

Cheryl decided to spend the night with us; we set her up in my old bedroom and Mickey gave her one of her old stuffed animals to sleep with.

It took a back rub with Mickey's new peppermint massage oil before I was able to get to sleep (Sebby had other ideas for that, but I figured it'd be impolite with a guest in the apartment).

That's when the dream started. I was taking my cousin (who looked a lot like Cheryl) to her fiance's freehold, when we were attacked by this sidhe with white hair and some sort of scales tattooed on his cheek -- and a bunch of his friends. When Cheryl and I were the only ones left, I managed to convince her to run away; I stayed to buy her some time.

Things went sort of fugue after that; I can only assume it was the Scathach Curse taking over, because the next thing I knew, I was lying in the rain, and everything hurt. I think I might have seen someone who looked an awful lot like Sebastian bending over me, but everything went dark again after that...

About that time, Bree jumped up on the bed and started licking my face.

Mental note -- in the dream, my cousin was named "Ceara." Something to work from, maybe? We'll see....

Three bodies found in one week. All of them were young women with dark hair. All of them were stabbed multiple times; one of them was beaten.

Things get even weirder when you take into account that they were stabbed with Cold Iron. Do we have somebody hunting fae? And what's the connection between the Cold Iron and the other links between the victims?

I'm keeping a very close eye on Mickey, and telling Sebby to do the same. I don't know if she fits the profile or not, but it'll be better to be safe.

Maybe I ought to pass this on to Sir Kellin at Caer Leon (assuming he doesn't already know)....

Like the song says: "Everything changes."

Mickey's moved in with Sebby and me; apparently, living with Shanna got to be too much of a strain on her. We've moved all three of us into Sebby's bedroom, and turned my old room into a computer room. Since most of what's in my closet is uniform pieces, Mickey's got half of it now. The closet, that is, not the uniform.

It's a good thing Mickey's in between Sebastian and me, or we might not get any sleep.

We're still in the process of finding space for everyone's stuff -- maybe we can bribe Marcie into letting us build in some shelves....

Another interesting thing that's happened -- there're two new ladies in number 16 -- Claudia and Cheryl. They're both transfers to Georgetown, according to Sebby and Mickey.

The weird thing is, I feel like I ought to know Cheryl from somewhere -- I don't know exactly where or how. Sebby's got an idea that we may have known each other in a previous incarnation -- we're inviting the two of them over to dinner to test the theory. We'll see what happens.
